The Law of Heredity
Unlike many other nineteenth-century biologists, Brooks recognized that Darwinian evolution could only be understood in the context of a theory of heredity that could explain heritable variation. Although the theories expressed in this book are now outdated, the book (and Brooks' recognition of the problem) helped establish the notion that heredity was a valid field of biological research.
